“If you look up family names and where they come from on the Ancestral Scotland site, you often find a cluster of them wherever the name originally came from, then another cluster in the Central Belt, in Glasgow or Edinburgh, because people generally moved to where the work was during the Industrial Revolution. So they leave a kind of trail.”
