“Nowhere else on earth is there so much attention to the Hindu ritual. Because it's such a physical practice, people are always tending the energy of the island. It's something you have to feel; it's hard to talk about. If you look at it from a Western point of view, if people with a collective consciousness hold that X is true -- that democracy is important, for example -- then they're going to create that environment. The local people are so in tune with cultivating harmony in themselves, in interactions with each other and in interactions with environment, that when you get there you not only feel their harmony, you begin to harmonize yourself.”
